Licensing & Regulatory Professionals at Kleinschmidt:

A role in Kleinschmidt’s licensing and regulatory division consists of working on ongoing client hydroelectric relicensing/licensing and permitting efforts. Our licensing and regulatory team members primarily work on hydroelectric and other renewable energy projects across the U.S. and Canada.

Team members have varying levels of experience. They assist or lead regulatory professionals and scientists with various tasks, including preparing applications for federal hydropower licenses through environmental analyses, developing reports, meeting agendas and presentations, and preparing state and federal or provincial environmental permits. Fieldwork is performed as needed to meet project needs.

Day-to-day areas of responsibility include:

  • Researching and reviewing project-related environmental regulations
  • Writing and summarizing environmental, scientific, and engineering data
  • Coordinating and attending meetings with resource agencies and contractors
  • Assisting with the project schedule and budget planning

Our team members possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Ecology, Planning, Recreation, Political Science, Environmental Studies, or a related field
  • Regulatory professional with experience in licensing and compliance work, including State, Federal, and/or Provincial permitting processes
  • Professional or collegiate-level writing, communication, and research techniques with a demonstrated ability to organize and track multiple projects assignments with competing deadlines across multiple technical areas
  • Possess the ability to interface with the public, agencies, and clients in a variety of settings
  • Public speaking experience
  • Ability to work well as part of a multi-disciplinary team and communicate assignment of tasks to other staff as necessary
  • Motivated to continue to learn and gain additional experience within the field
